Orkney offers an endless source of inspiration for my painitng with its unique  landscape, spectacular coastline and seaviews, ever changing weather,  long traditions of farming and fishing and a rich history stretching back over 5000 years!  I try to capture a bit of this in my work and hope to portray how I feel about Orkney through my painting.

Toumal is an old Orkney word from the days when crofts shared common grazing and the toumal/toomal was the name for the field belonging to the house,  where hens would have been kept or kale grown.  It seemed appropriate as my studio is in the garden!

Where possible I have used old Orkney dialect words and place names in my titles.
